Privacy policy
Privacy policy
This policy covers the Flora & Fauna app for iPhone and iPad and the website florafaunasudoku.com. It is written to be read, not skimmed past.
Last revised 13 October 2026
In plain terms
- No accounts. You never sign up, and we never ask for your name or email address to play.
- Your collection is yours. It is stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own iCloud account so it follows you to a new phone. We never have a copy.
- No adverts, no ad networks. There is no advertising software in the app, so nothing is collected to serve, target or measure adverts.
- Membership goes through Apple. The Naturalist Society is an Apple subscription. We never see your card or your Apple ID password, only a record from Apple that a membership is active.
- We do not sell your data, and the only time we hold personal information is when you email us.
Who we are
Flora & Fauna is published by Flora & Fauna ("we", "us"). For the purposes of data-protection law, we are the controller of any personal data described in this policy. You can reach us atsupport@florafaunasudoku.com.
What the app collects
Game data, kept on your device and in your iCloud
Everything that makes up your collection is stored on your device: the species you have recorded, your puzzles, streak, hints, difficulty and settings. If your device is signed in to iCloud, the app also keeps a copy in Apple's iCloud key-value storage, in your own iCloud account, so your collection survives deleting the app and follows you to a new device signed in to the same Apple ID. That copy is stored and protected by Apple; we cannot see it or reach it. A puzzle in progress stays on the device it was started on.
We have no server of our own that holds any of this, so we cannot recover a collection for you. Your device may also include this data in an iCloud or computer backup according to your own backup settings. All of that is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not ours.
Game Center
If you are signed in to Game Center, the app submits your lifetime feather score to a Game Center leaderboard after each finished puzzle, where other players can see it next to your Game Center name. This is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. You can turn Game Center off inSettings › Game Center.
Crash and diagnostic reports
If you have chosen in iOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymised crash logs and aggregate usage statistics. These contain no identifiers we could use to recognise you. You can turn this off at any time under Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
Support email
If you write to us, we keep your email address and message for as long as we need to answer you and to keep a record of the conversation. We do not add you to any mailing list.
Membership (Apple)
The Naturalist Society is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple's App Store using Apple's StoreKit framework. Apple handles payment, billing, free trials, renewals, cancellations and refunds. We do not receive your payment-card details, billing address or Apple ID credentials.
What the app receives from Apple is a signed transaction record: the plan, a transaction identifier, the relevant dates and whether the membership is active. The app reads it from Apple each time it starts, to decide what is open to you, and keeps only a note on the device of the last answer so the app does not flicker while Apple replies. Nothing about your membership is sent to us. If a family member shares their membership with you through Family Sharing, Apple tells the app that a membership is active; it does not tell us who anyone is. SeeApple's privacy policyfor how Apple handles purchase data.
What we do not do
- We do not require or offer accounts, and we do not collect names, email addresses, or contacts to play.
- We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone. Apple handles membership, and iCloud and Game Center if you use them, as described above.
- We do not show adverts and do not include any advertising SDK.
- We do not use third-party analytics, attribution or "growth" SDKs. The only third-party code in the app is Apple's own frameworks.
- We do not read your location, and the app never asks for permission to.
- We do not access your camera, microphone, photos, contacts, or calendar.
Your choices
- Restore membership: use Restore Purchases in the app's settings on a new device or after reinstalling.
- Manage or cancel membership: Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions.
- Stop iCloud sync: turn off iCloud for Flora & Fauna under Settings › [your name] › iCloud. Your collection then stays on this device only.
- Leave the leaderboard: sign out of Game Center under Settings › Game Center.
- Stop crash reports: Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
- Delete everything: Erase Everything in the app's settings removes your collection from the device and from iCloud. Deleting the app removes it from the device only. Nothing remains with us, because nothing was ever sent to us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of personal data about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Because we hold no personal data about you other than support correspondence, most of these rights are exercised directly through the choices above. For anything else, email support@florafaunasudoku.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Residents of the EEA, the UK and Switzerland: our legal basis for handling purchase records and support email is the performance of a contract with you and our legitimate interest in running the app. We process nothing else about you.
California and other US state residents: we do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.
Children
Flora & Fauna is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Because the app has no accounts, no adverts and no tracking, a child using it shares nothing with us. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data by email, write to us and we will delete it.
Retention and transfers
Game data lives on your device, and in your iCloud account if you use iCloud, until you erase it. Support email is kept for up to two years after the conversation ends. Because the app sends nothing to us, there is no other data of yours for us to retain or transfer.
This website
florafaunasudoku.com is a static site. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads no advertising. The daily puzzle you can play in your browser saves your progress and streak in your browser's local storage so it is there when you come back; that data never leaves your browser and you can clear it from your browser settings. Our web host may keep standard server logs (IP address, time, page requested) for security purposes for a short period.
Changes to this policy
If we change what the app collects, we will update this page and the revision date at the top, and for material changes we will say so inside the app. The current policy is always atflorafaunasudoku.com/privacy/.
